The Accommodation

HENGOED offers traditional style and atmosphere with modern comforts, all to a very high standard. 7 guests can be accommodated. There are 3 bedrooms (2 double and one single), 1 bathroom and 1 shower room (both with toilets and wash-basins), living/dining room, a snug/library which can provide a sofa bed (for +1 or +2), kitchen.

Living / Dining

The living/dining room is almost entirely traditional with lime-washed original stone walls, slate, original beams, floor joists and stairwell, all in Oak. The flooring, window sills and doors are modern character oak to compliment. A cast iron wood-burning stove is housed within a stone inglenook with 17th century oak lintel, and a separate small alcove has a TV/DVD. Quality furnishings from Crowson and Sanderson with hand-made Wesley-Barrell sofa suite.

The Snug/Library can accommodate two if necessary. The sofa bed can be adapted with a proper memory foam double mattress to provide the sort of comfort which you would expect from a nice bed! The shower room/toilet is adjacent, providing easy access for anyone using the snug. There is a good selection of books, guides and maps to enable guests to research where they would like to visit in the local area, as well as general interest.

Kitchen & Heating

Traditional Shaker-style kitchen, ceramic hob and double oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher. Belfast sink and oak draining board. Heating and hot water is provided by a Ground Source Heat pump, for ecologically-sound constant heat and hot water as appropriate. Very well equipped with a large range of kitchen utensils, quality crockery ( including Portmeirion and Emma Bridgewater and Kath Kitson ), kitchen roll, detergents and kitchen cloths/towels, ironing board and iron, dyson and ample food storage.


Original Oak truss and beams evident in two of the three bedrooms, lime-washed walls as well as modern plasterwork. Soft carpeting, solid Victorian-style beds and antique rustic pine furniture. professionally laundered quality Egyptian cotton sheets provided on all beds. And each guest will be provided 2 towels – small and bath sizes. Conservation skylight windows in bedrooms one and two. Sanderson curtain fabrics. Main bathroom has a roll-top “slipper” bath. Toiletries, toilet paper and towels provided.


There is a private picket-fenced garden with cast iron table and chairs. The rear of the property and garden offer dramatic views down to the river and up the wooded Clywedog valley into the hills, with an abundance of broad-leaved trees including ancient Oaks.
